Determining whether your product is in scope for the retailer you are selling to for WERCSmart.

Your retailers make the final decision whether or not certain products fall within their scope for WERCSmart registration.

To determine whether or not your product is in scope for a certain retailer, please use the following steps:

  • On your home page, select the handshake icon for "Retailer Partners".

  • You may now select the logo for the retailer that you seek, select the logo to be brought to a page concerning that specific retailer.

  • On this page, please find the text box just below the "Data Consent Tiers" title, this box contains the notes provided by the retailer for which products are in scope for registration as well as what data consent tiers are required.

    • Not all retailers will have notes contained in this box.

  • You may also select the dark red "Products in Scope" button to download a report of which products within your account would be considered in scope for that retailer.

    • This download option is only available for some retailers.

    • The system will automatically download the file in the form of an Excel sheet.

If your retailer does not have any notes regarding which products are in scope, does not have a download option, or you are unsure whether your product falls into one of the categories listed by the retailer, please use the following steps:

  • Contact your retailer buyer and provide some of your product details so that they can determine whether or not the product is in scope.

    • Target asks that you contact the following email address to determine if your product is in scope: HazmatPublish@target.com

  • If your retailer is unable to provide a specific answer on whether or not your product would be in scope, you may contact Customer Support via phone call, chat, or by submitting a ticket to see if they can determine whether your product would be in scope for registration.

If you submit your product to a retailer and it is out of scope, it will enter 'Suspended' status.

For example, Walmart only accepts Nutritional Fact products if the physical state is aerosol, compressed gas or concentrated liquid.

If your product is not in the scope set by Walmart, the registration will not be accepted. If these products are submitted, it can lead to the product entering 'Suspended' status in WERCSmart.
