Finding Your Battery and Common Name
If you need help finding your battery or its common name for registration in WERCSmart, follow these steps. This guide will help you search for your battery, contact the manufacturer if needed, and complete your registration.
Overview
When registering a product containing a battery, the battery must be registered separately in WERCSmart first to complete the battery-containing product (BCP) registration.
Step 1: Edit the product
- Navigate to your Home Page by clicking the Home icon on the left-side navigation bar.
- Find the specific product in the table.
- Under the 'Actions' column, select the three dots.
- Select Edit from the dropdown list.
- Note: The option may also be Update Data or Update Required.
- The product registration will open for editing.
Step 2: Navigate to the Ingredients List
- Select Edit from the dropdown list.
- Note: The option may also be Update Data or Update Required.
- The product registration will open for editing.
- Click on the second tab of the registration Product Characteristics.
- Click on Product Includes Battery.
Step 3: Search for Your Battery
Find your battery using the information you have.
- Use the search function in the 'Manufacturer' field to look for your battery.
- The 7-digit WPS ID provided by the manufacturer
- The common name
- If you find the battery, select it from the dropdown and complete the rest of the questions about the battery.

Step 4: Contact the Manufacturer
If you cannot find the battery, contact the manufacturer for the common name and registration details.
- Ask if the battery is registered in WERCSmart and request the common name and WPS (Workplace Safety) information.
- If the battery is not registered, request that the manufacturer register it.
Note: If the manufacturer fails to register the battery, you can still register it in your account if they provide all the necessary information. For more information, see I need to add my battery to WERCSmart.
Step 5: Complete Your Product Registration
Once the manufacturer provides the necessary information, add it to your battery-containing product registration by revisiting Steps 1-3.
Special Notes
Suspended Battery
- If the battery is already in our systems and marked as Suspended, it will not be available for selection until the issue is resolved.
- If the battery you are using in your product has been suspended, please contact the battery manufacturer and ask them to log into their account to address the issue as soon as possible.
Archived Battery
- If a battery is marked as "Archived," it is no longer in our systems and cannot be selected.
- Please contact the manufacturer to register a new battery and obtain its common name when it reaches "completed" status.
- If a replacement has already been registered, request the common name for that as well.
