Battery selection for registering battery-containing products.

When registering a product that contains a battery, the battery must be registered separately in WERCSmart first to complete the registration for the battery-containing product.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Register the battery in your battery-containing product

Before you register your battery-containing product, the battery contained in the product must be registered in WERCSmart.

  • Make sure that the product type of your battery-containing product is one of the battery-containing product types.
    • The most common product type is "Battery-Containing Product", however, there are many other product types to choose from that may better define your product type. For a full list, type "Battery" in the product type box and you will see a dropdown of the other battery containing product type options.
  • All types of batteries must be registered in WERCSmart before being applied to a battery-containing product registration.
  • Generally, the manufacturer of the battery will register the battery in their own WERCSmart account and then provide you with the common name of the battery.
  • If the manufacturer is unwilling to register their battery, you can also register the battery within your own account as long as the battery manufacturer provides you with the following:
    • 100% of the battery's formulation.
    • The Dual Language Safety Data Sheet, or the Article Information Sheet (AIS) and Technical Data Sheet (TDS).
    • Dual language versions of the battery's product label.
  • Once the battery is registered successfully in WERCSmart meaning that it was submitted and reviewed successfully, you can add the battery to your battery-containing product.

Complete BCP product registration

Now that the battery is registered in WERCSmart, you can complete the battery-containing product registration by taking the following steps:

For a full list, type "Battery" in the product type box and you will see a dropdown of the other battery containing product type options.
  • On your home page, select the three dots to the right of your battery-containing product under the "Actions" title.
  • Select either "Update data", "Update Required" or "Edit" from the dropdown list. Depending on what the current status of your product, different options will show. Any of these options will open your registration for edits to be made.
  • Proceed to the "Product Characteristics" page by clicking that title from the upper part of the screen.
  • Select the "Product Includes Battery" section.
    • Answer the question regarding how your battery is packaged within the product by selecting one of the options.
    • Select the green box just below the "Battery Type" title and choose the battery that is being registered with this product.
  • You may now select the box below "Manufacturer" and type in the common name of the battery to search the database for your battery.
    • You may also search by the manufacturer name that registered the battery and the battery's name as it was registered.
    • The common name of the battery must be provided by the company that registered the battery.
  • Once you see your desired battery appear in the dropdown below the search box, select the battery to add this to the registration.
  • You can also add additional batteries if needed for your product registration.
  •  You may now continue through the remainder of the registration until the product is submitted.

Note: If you are asked about the state of charge (SoC) during your battery registration, please see Updates to Battery Registration and Battery State of Charge.

Unable to find the battery in the database

  • Review the common name you have selected to ensure you are searching for the correct battery.
  • If you have confirmed that your battery information is accurate after following the above steps, please contact the company that registered the battery to confirm the status of the battery registration.
    • If a new battery registration is suspended, it is not added to our database for selection until the issue is resolved and the battery reaches completed status.
    • If the battery is one that already exists in our systems and is Suspended, it will be removed from selection until the issue is resolved. Please contact the battery manufacturer and request they log into their account and address the issue right away if the battery you use in your product has been indicated to be suspended by our staff.
    • If a battery has been indicated to have Archived after contacting support staff or your agent, then it no longer exists in our systems and is no longer available for selection. Please contact the battery manufacturer and request they register a new battery and provide you the common name once the battery reaches completed status or, if a replacement has already been registered, provide the common name for that registration.
