Overview
To align with updated regulatory requirements for Appliance with Gas product registrations, several enhancements have been made to the WERCSmart Portal. These changes introduce a dedicated refrigerant data collection process, and update transportation classification handling.
These updates apply to both new registrations and, where noted, existing Appliance registrations using gas as a refrigerant.
What's Changing
New Refrigerant Data Collection Section
A dedicated Refrigerant section has been added to registrations that are an appliance using a refrigerant gas immediately following the ingredients step.
Users must now identify the refrigerant type used in the appliance by selecting one of the following:
- Flammable, non-toxic
- Non-flammable, non-toxic
- Other
Based on the selected refrigerant type, the Portal will guide users through the appropriate regulatory questions and required data fields.
Expanded Refrigerant Logic and Regulatory Branching
Additional regulatory decision paths have been added to support current appliance refrigerant requirements.
Flammable, Non-Toxic Refrigerants
The Portal now supports:
- Products containing 4 ounces or less of refrigerant.
- Products containing more than 4 ounces of refrigerant.
When a product contains more than 4 ounces of refrigerant, users will be asked whether the appliance contains:
- 12 kilograms or less of refrigerant
Additional compliance questions will be presented as required.
Non-Flammable, Non-Toxic Refrigerants
Users are now asked whether the appliance contains:
- 12 kilograms or less of refrigerant, or
- 12 liters or less of ammonia solution
The Portal also captures the required operating pressure information as part of this process.
Other Refrigerants
When Other is selected:
- Users must enter the refrigerant name.
- Users must provide required operating pressure information.
- Additional transportation information is required.
Transportation Classification Updates
Transportation handling has been enhanced based on refrigerant type.
Flammable, Non-Toxic Refrigerants and Non-Flammable, Non-Toxic Refrigerants
Transportation information is now automatically assigned and cannot be edited.
Other Refrigerants
No transportation values are automatically assigned. Users must complete required transportation details for each applicable transportation mode identified during registration.
Enhanced UPC Validation
UPC-level refrigerant information is now validated against product-level refrigerant information.
If refrigerant information entered at the UPC level does not match the information previously entered at the product level:
- An error message is displayed.
- Users cannot proceed until the data is corrected and aligned.
This validation helps ensure consistency across the registration.
Registration Summary Enhancements
The Registration Summary page now displays refrigerant information when available. Users and reviewers can more easily verify refrigerant-related registration details before submission.
Existing Registrations - Recertification Support
Affected registrations are eligible to update refrigerant information through recertification.
For applicable Appliance with Gas registrations:
- Refrigerant information may need to be reviewed and updated during future recertification activities.
- Registrations using refrigerants will follow the updated refrigerant and transportation logic.
