Changing the product type in your registration
This article details when and how you can change the Product Type within your registration. This is an essential step in correctly registering your product, as the Product Type affects the rest of the information gathered during the registration.

Step 1: Edit the product
- Navigate to your Home Page by clicking the Home icon on the left-side navigation bar.
- Find the specific product in the table.
- Under the 'Actions' column, select the three dots.
- Select Edit from the dropdown list.
- The product registration will open for editing.
Step 2: Change the Product Type
- Click on the first tab of the registration Product Type
- Click on The Product
- Next to 'Type of Product' begin typing the new product type

Note: The Product Type selection will change the questions asked during your product registration. Consequently, to successfully register your product in WERCSmart, the Product Type chosen must accurately represent your product.
Step 3: Continue with registration and submit
- Proceed through each step of the registration
- After all information is correct, you can then submit the product for review by the Assessment team.
- Select Edit from the dropdown list.
- The product registration will open for editing.

The product has already been submitted for review or was Suspended
Step 1: Contact Customer Support
If you need to change the Product Type after submission, please contact Customer Support by phone or by submitting a ticket.
- We can have your product placed into recertification, and then you can make any necessary updates before you resubmit.
- Note: When contacting support, please include the WPS ID and specify that you wish to change the product type.
Customer Support will notify you when the product has been placed in recertification.
- You may need to refresh your browser or log in/out in to see the change.
- The product should now appear in red, indicating that the product "Needs Your Attention."
Step 2: Edit the product
- Navigate to your Home Page by clicking the Home icon on the left-side navigation bar.
- Find the specific product in the table.
- Under the 'Actions' column, select the three dots.
- Select Update Required from the dropdown list.
- The product registration will open for editing.
Step 3: Change the Product Type
- Click on the first tab of the registration Product Type
- Click on The Product
- Next to 'Type of Product' begin typing the new product type

Note: Changing your item's product type can significantly impact the information already entered during the product registration process. Please ensure that your product truly needs a product type update before proceeding with this change to avoid losing any data previously entered in the registration.
Step 4: Continue with registration and resubmit
Because the required fields throughout the registration change depending on the Product Type, please proceed through each step and make any necessary updates or additions.
- After all information is updated and correct, you must resubmit the product for review by the Assessment team.
- Select Update Required from the dropdown list.
- The product registration will open for editing.
