Overview (Credit Card Surcharge, Purchase Order, PayPal Updates)  

To support evolving payment processing requirements, the WERCSmart® Portal is introducing updates to how payment methods are presented and processed during purchases, subscription enrollments, upgrades, and renewals. These changes are based on the account's Billing Address, not the company's physical location.



Credit Card Surcharges 

Customers with billing addresses located in:

  • United States
  • U.S. Territories
  • Canada

may be subject to applicable credit card surcharges when using an eligible credit card payment method. Any applicable surcharge amount will be estimated and displayed before payment confirmation so customers can review the estimated transaction cost prior to completing their purchase.

 

PayPal Availability Changes 

Beginning October 26, 2026, PayPal will no longer be available as a payment option for accounts with billing addresses in the United States, U.S. Territories, or Canada. This change is required to comply with payment processing and surcharge program requirements.

Customers with billing addresses outside these regions will continue to have access to PayPal where supported. 


How Billing Address Affects Payment Options

Payment method availability and surcharge applicability are determined using the account's Billing Address maintained within WERCSmart Portal. As a result:

  • Accounts with a company location in the United States or Canada, but with a billing address outside those regions, may continue to have access to PayPal and may not incur applicable credit card surcharges.
  • Accounts with billing addresses in the United States, U.S. Territories, or Canada will not be presented with PayPal as a payment option for applicable transactions.

 

Impacted Transactions

These changes may affect:

  • New subscription enrollments
  • Subscription renewals
  • Subscription upgrades
  • Additional Portal purchases and services processed through the WERCSmart Portal payment workflow 


What Customers Should Do 

Customers should review their Billing Address information and available payment methods before their next subscription renewal, upgrade, or purchase. Alternative payment methods, including ACH and wire transfer, remain available where supported.
