Flash point information is required for products with formulations that may be classified as flammable or combustible.


The Review Team may place a registration on hold to verify the flash point when:

  • The product contains a high percentage of flammable components.
  • The product is an oil or contains multiple combustible oils in its formulation.


Flash point data is important because it can affect how a product is classified, transported, handled, and stored. While a product may not meet the criteria for a flammable liquid, it may still be classified as a combustible liquid, which can have specific storage and handling requirements at retailer facilities.


Providing flash point information when applicable helps ensure accurate product classification and supports compliance with transportation, storage, and workplace safety requirements.

If flash point information is unavailable on the SDS, suppliers may need to provide supporting test data (closed-cup method) or additional documentation to confirm the appropriate classification.
