Embedded Batteries
The current regulatory requirement relates to SB 1215 Electronic Waste Recycling Act Amendment for Embedded Batteries. The goal of the regulation is to reduce fires as well as injuries to workers while increasing recycling of batteries.
For the purposes of compliance, an embedded battery in a product is one that is built into the product in a way that makes it difficult for the user to remove it using common household tools such as screwdrivers or pliers. The battery is not intended to be removed by the average user.
To meet current and emerging regulations for embedded batteries:
If “battery is installed in the product” is selected, you must specify whether the battery is embedded (not easily removed) in the product. Additionally, when GTIN/UPC data is applied and the registration indicates the battery is embedded, the UPC will default to containing an embedded battery. You can, per UPC, adjust this indicator.
Existing Registrations that indicate a battery is installed must update their registration details and resubmit. Auto-Recertification will prompt for this information when forwarding or editing data.

Drug Facts Label Not Required for Health & Beauty, Pet Care and Pharmacy Products
Earlier in 2025, documentation requirements were expanded for certain product categories with the introduction of Drug Facts. After further review, we’re revising the requirements for the following product categories:
- Health & Beauty
- Pet Care
- Pharmacy
When Drug Facts is indicated:
- SDS remains a required upload in the registration
- Product Labeling, even if Drug Facts is indicated, will now collect a product label as an optional document
Recertification – Visibility of Product Type and Name
Previously, the Product Type field was not visible when editing an existing registration because it’s not editable. To improve the user experience, this field will now be visible during edits but remains read-only.
National Drug Code (NDC) Fixes
Format Validation
NDC validation of the format is revised to accommodate additional formats.
NDC Overwrite via API
When an NDC value is provided in a registration, when continuing the Daily Med information, was overwriting the data in error, due to the product having various NDC values. The expectation is that the entered NDC would be the value associated with the product. This issue has been fixed
Temperature Phrasing
During some updates, we had inadvertently revised the phrasing around temperature data collection when Drug Facts labeling was indicated for a product. We’ve restored the phrasing as follows:
- Does the product have temperature storage requirements?
Existing Registration – UPC Data NDC Optional
Existing registrations submitted before July 29, 2025, have been updated for UPC-level NDC requirements. These registrations have the option of providing the NDCs at the UPC-level.
Pesticide Overlay for Ingredients – Fix
A fix to the functional related to pesticide ingredient validation for the product type / recommended use of Medicinal Liquids. This product type was providing ingredient validation in error, and this is now resolved.
