Ingredient Import Now Available

Great news! WERCSmart now lets you easily upload data about the ingredients in your formulated registration. You can upload your data as an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV (.csv) file, and there’s a handy template available on the site to help you get started.

When you’re in the Ingredients view under Product Characteristics, simply use the “Import Ingredient List” option to bring in your data.

After selecting the import option, you’ll be prompted to either upload your list, or use the template link to open a blank, pre-formatted file.

If you didn’t use the available template, you might need to map your file headings to those used in the Portal. The template will confirm the mappings, even if you’ve made changes to it before importing. Be sure to verify that the suggested header mappings are correct before proceeding.

After successfully importing the file, you can make edits before adding the data to your registration. Ensure the CAS numbers, Chemical Names, and percentages are accurate.

At this stage, you can make any necessary edits to the data. For example, if the import mapped to the wrong CAS number, you could correct it by selecting the pencil icon next to the component you want to edit. Alternatively, you can choose the suggested component that appears below the entry.

In the following example, Rosemary has no chemical entered in the Actual Input field, but there is a suggested ingredient listed below.  You can either search for the component, as shown in the previous editing steps, or simply click on the suggested ingredient to populate the Actual Input field.

When you're satisfied with the imported data, click “Continue”. Review the entries for accuracy and completeness, then select “Import” to proceed.

You’ll be returned to the registration view, where the information has been successfully imported. From here, you can add more ingredients, remove ingredients, or make further edits.

If you’ve already uploaded a list of ingredients and have another list to import, you can use the “Import Ingredient List” option again to add more chemicals to the registration.   If you’re adding or replacing ingredients in a registration that already has data in the Ingredient table, you’ll receive a verification message before finalizing the import.  You’ll need to choose one of the listed options before proceeding:

  • Import without replacing existing data (append data). This will add the new ingredients to the existing list already in the registration.
  • Replace existing data with imported chemical data (overwrite data). This will remove any existing data in the registration and will replace it entirely with new list of chemicals.

Similarly, the same import functionality is available in the Ingredient Library, located in the My Account / Library area of WERCSmart.  Need to build a table of commonly used ingredients?   You can use this functionality to import fresh data and create your Ingredient Library for your WERCSmart account.   You can also add ingredients to your existing library as needed using import functionality.

When using your Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to establish your registration in WERCSmart, keep in mind that Section 3 of the SDS may not include a complete list of ingredients for your product, as regulations only require specific chemicals be listed there.  To ensure your registration includes the full ingredient list with the percentages of each component, you can combine the SDS import with the Ingredient import!
