New, or Improved, Functionality in WERCSmart®:

Expanded Options to Begin a WERCSmart Registration

As WERCSmart expands to include non-formulated product types (see PFAS information below), we need to manage the list of Product Types for selection. Therefore, the initial setup of a product registration will now include more specific registration options.

When creating a new product registration, the options available will be:

Here’s some guidance on which option to use when creating a new registration in Portal.

Create a product registration using SDS import

This is for formulated registrations that typically require a Safety Data Sheet as part of the registration. Data from specific areas of the provided SDS will be available in the registration data for your review and finalization. Since some product types do not require a SDS document, this option cannot be used when creating one of the following product types:

  • Nutritional Supplements; or
  • Over-the-Counter products; or
  • Articles (Non-Formulated)

Data from the Safety Data Sheet will input information into the registration for the following areas of the Safety Data Sheet:

  • Section 3 of the Safety Data Sheet
    • Ingredient data
    • Reminder – Full formulations may not be included in this section, so additional data may be required in the registration.
  • Section 9 of the Safety Data Sheet
    • Physical state information will be mapped to this area of the registration process and includes pH, Boiling Point and Flash Point, if applicable to the product.
  • Section 14 of the Safety Data Sheet
    • Transportation classification details.

Create formulated registration

The standard method for registrations requiring manual entry, or utilizing upload of data when available, for the product, ensuring alignment of the data with any required documents provided.

When creating a Kit or Battery-containing product, use the option of “Create Formulated Registration.”

Create an article registration

This will be for items that typically do not include formulation details, such as:

  • Board games with no battery or chemicals
  • Yo-Yo
  • Reading glasses
  • Handbags, Backpacks
  • Showerheads
  • Umbrellas
  • Fire-retardant fabrics or clothing

The above are just a few examples.

Create a registration by copying an existing registration

When you’re going to create a registration that slightly varies from one you’ve already created in Portal, you may want to consider using this option. It will copy elements from the original registration and allow you to review, and edit, the details of the registration as needed.

Reminder - Registering Kits or Battery-Containing Products

Although these registrations do not collect specific formulation data, typically they are a result of products that do include these data elements. When registering these products, you will continue to use one the option of:

  • Create formulated registration
