What is a Private Label?

A product is considered Private Label when the product is packaged/sold under the name of a retailer rather than the name of the manufacturer.

If you are unsure whether or not your product is considered a Private Label, please contact your internal company team to confirm prior to making a selection in WERCSmart.

During the registration process, you will see the question shown below to answer whether or not your product is a Private Label:

If you manufacture the same formulation (ingredients and percentages) for multiple retailers under their individual brands/labels, you can register as one formulation and add the individual product brands on the Retailer Page.

Special Note:

  • All Private Label Products being sold to Walmart require a Safety Data Sheet to be authored each time a Product is registered, recertified, or forwarded to Walmart. If you are only adding a new UPC, you will not need to request a new Authored SDS for the product unless there is no previously authored SDS present.

    • Request to Author is pre-selected during the registration process.

  • For all other retailers, you should be able to upload your own Safety Data Sheet when registering as a Private Label.

  • If you find that you have accidentally marked your product as a Private Label and submitted your product, please contact Customer Support via phone call, chat, or by submitting a ticket to have this question reopened for you to edit.
