DPCI Requirements for Target Registrations

Each UPC associated with Target must include a corresponding DPCI (Department, Class, Item) number. DPCI numbers are entered on the UPC page within the WERCSmart registration.

Target provides the applicable DPCI number(s) to the WERCSmart user. In some cases, a single UPC may be associated with multiple DPCI numbers. When this occurs, all related DPCI numbers should be entered in WERCSmart and separated by commas.

DPCI numbers follow the format XXX-XX-XXXX and are used by Target to identify products within its retail systems. The DPCI serves as the retailer’s internal product identification code, representing the product's department, class, and item number.
