What is a flashpoint and why is it being required? 


The flash point is the lowest temperature at which there will be enough flammable vapor to induce ignition when an ignition source is applied.


Where is the Flashpoint located on your Safety Data Sheet? 

Section 9 of the Safety Data Sheet. The Flashpoint will be for the whole product, certain components may drive the Flashpoint value of your overall product. 


The most common ingredients that can contribute to a product having a flashpoint:

  • Isododecane

  • Ethanol

  • Methanol

  • Isopropanol

  • Acetone

  • Ethyl Acetate

  • N-Butyl alcohol


If a product contains oil(s) and no Flashpoint is provided or listed on your Safety Data Sheet, you may be asked if your product has a Flashpoint which will need to be provided to the Assessment team. 


Special Note: 

When a product gets suspended and you are asked to provide FP testing, you will want to obtain a closed-cup method of testing. The test results should be uploaded to the "Review and Submit" page of the registration under "Additional Documents to Provide".
