The following updates to WERCSmart are available as of the beginning of business January 6, 2022:

Single - retailer subscription option

We’re excited to introduce a new WERCSmart product subscription option to provide cost savings when registering a product intended for a single retailer. UL WERCSmart will now offer this single-retailer subscription, in addition to the tiered subscription program for registrations.

A WERCSmart account may have a combination of product registrations in either subscription option. Should you need to forward a single-retailer subscription registration to an additional retailer in the future, you may transfer the registration to the tiered subscription program.

Highlights of this program are available in the UL WERCSmart Solution Center.

IATA regulatory revision for lithium batteries as of January 1, 2022

Due to a recent regulatory change made by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), Section II exemption for IATA is no longer applicable for lithium battery registrations.

Existing battery registrations have been updated in alignment with the new regulation. Battery-containing product registrations that include lithium batteries are not affected by this regulatory change at this time, and Section II is still applicable under IATA.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has not yet ruled on any revisions to the lithium battery transport in conjunction with IATA.

Upcoming improvements

State pesticide data

The process for registering state pesticide registration data will be streamlined to improve.

    The revision will include:

  • Selection of state status
    • Registered
      • The product is registered in the specific state
      • State expiration date entry is required
    • Restricted/not registered
      • The state does not allow the sale of the product (registered); or
      • The product is chosen by the account not to be registered in the specific state
      • No expiration date entry will be needed as there is a default of not applicable
    • No state registration required
      • The state does not require registration of this product type per their own state regulations
      • No expiration date will be needed as the default will be not applicable
    • Pending state registration
      • The state registration has been submitted but the finalization is not yet determined by the state regulatory agency
      • No expiration date will be needed until such time the selection is changed to "Registered"
  • State registration numbers will no longer be collected for each individual state

Bulk updating of state registration dates will be available when the registration is set to expire within 90 days or less, using a “revise all dates” option within the individual product registration.
