Most people love the electronic product registration question stream! No SDS’s to upload. No formulations to enter. It’s simple and quick!

While the electronic product registration question stream is more streamlined than others, it doesn’t come without some questions – specifically in the e-waste classification section – which plays a big role in determining whether your product will be classified as hazardous waste, or not.

This article highlights for you which areas you should focus on to get the best and most accurate results. (Hint: It begins with the TCLP testing question)

E-waste classification data question stream

The electronic waste classification stream begins by asking if you have completed Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) testing. (Image below)

If “Yes” is selected, the question stream is shorter, and you will be asked to upload your testing document in the submission.

If “No” is selected, the question stream expands and prompts a series of answers to determine if your electronic product contains the presence of any of the nine heavy metals (Lead, Mercury, Silver, Cadmium, Chromium, Barium, Arsenic, Selenium, and Copper).

While there is a range of options available to answer, it is important to identify accurate selection.

When “Yes” or “Yes, below RCRA limit” is selected – If your product contains any of these heavy metals – depending on each retailer’s waste program in combination with state and federal regulations – may result as it being identified as a hazardous waste.

When “No” is selected – If none of these heavy metals exist in the product, then no hazardous waste implications will be noted.

When “I don’t know” is selected – Selecting “I don’t know” may result in additional measures being taken by your retail partners with unexpected fees being incurred.
