Home Page Loading

Our team was noticing a lack of performance when loading the Home Page view in WERCSmart, specific to the Alerts. Performance improvements have been made and you should be noticing significant improvements.

Registration Data Entry

Product Type Selection - Industrial

WERCSmart customers that use WERCSLink 

to connect with your internal ERP System (Enterprise Resource Planning), Formulation System or other applications, additional Product Types are now available for selection as compared to WERCSmart. A fix was performed where the Industrial Use Only product type is solely available for WERCSLink customers.


If you had registered a product in WERCSmart in the recent past, but are not using WERCSLink, and you chose Industrial Use Only, please be aware that your registration will require an update should you forward the registration to additional retailers, or add a UPC to the registration. At that time, you will be able to correct the Product Type, update the registration, and resubmit for assessment.


Retailer Selection – Deleting or Archiving Retailers

An issue was found where the deleted retailers were still showing as active on the Retailer Selection area within a registration. When a registrant would select a Retailer for removal on a registration and use the Trash Can icon, the retailer would remain as an active selection.


Before the fix, in the examples below, a registrant would select the retailer for deletion (Figure 1) and when continuing, the retailer would still be indicated as an active selection (Figure 2).

This issue has been fixed. A deleted retailer will not show on the Selected Retailers.

Similarly, archiving a retailer was not performing as expected and was also fixed.


UPC Entry – Part Number

To improve visibility of the “Add Part Number” option on the UPC entry area, the button is now in color.



California Prop 65 – Chemical Name Text Fix

A bug fix has been performed with regard to the Safe Harbor long-form warning. When a registrant would select an option (Item 1), they could then provide the chemical name(s) in a text box that contributed to the warning (Item 2). Following the entry of the chemical(s), there is also a field to provide a custom warning (Item 3). The following are examples of the issue that required a fix.


As a registrant provides the custom warning text in the field (Item 3 above), the chemical name entry (Item 2 above) would be removed in error.

In the example below, a chemical name has been added and a custom warning is preparing to be added.

As the text is added to the Custom Warning field, the initial Safe Harbor item resets to Does Not Apply (Item 1) and the Chemical(s) disappear (Item 2), leaving the Custom Warning intact (Item 3).

The fix implemented allows the Safe Harbor setting to remain and the chemicals to be listed, while also collecting any custom warning message (Items 1, 2 and 3 coexist).

Safety Data Sheet Authoring Service

Document Acceptance Notification via Email

The email provided to registrants who request a Safety Data Sheet by authored by UL has been updated. Previously the message indicated, in error, that the registrant needed to finalize the Safety Data Sheet within WERCSmart before the registration assessment and document would be provided to the Retailer.

For several years, the assessment and document have gone directly to the retailer and once the registrant finalized the document acceptance, the document revision would be available to the retailer as well. Unfortunately, the message to the registrant was not updated.

The link within the email notification to the registrant, which brings them to WERCSmart’s Login area, was also not functioning.

The instructions within the email notification have been corrected and the link to WERCSmart’s Login is fixed.

Submitting Registrations

Shopping Cart

Several WERCSmart customers were experiencing issues with their shopping cart. The cart would be empty, yet when attempting to update a registration from the My Products view, the Action option would indicate the registration was in a Shopping Cart.

Also, registrants would receive email notifications of items being in the Shopping Cart, yet upon login and verification, the Shopping Cart would be empty.

A fix has been put into place to remedy the Shopping Cart error.


Subscription Payment Methods

We had also received reports from WERCSmart customers that selection of ACH payment method for subscription was requiring credit card information. This has been fixed.

 

 

 

Looking to the Future

Here are some items coming to WERCSmart in the coming months.

Terms of Use

Revisions to the WERCSmart Terms of Use are being reviewed and will be implemented around July 1, 2020.  Users, upon login, will need to review and accept the Terms of Use before proceeding to their Home Page in WERCSmart.


Subscription Billing Revision

On September 1, 2020, UL Information & Insights will be known as UL VS, Inc. Be sure the Billing Contact on your WERCSmart account is aware of this upcoming revision as it will impact all payment methods (credit card, ACH, Wire Transfer). More information will follow regarding details of this update and targeted communication to the Billing Contacts will also be done via our Marketing department.

Receipts / Invoices provided via WERCSmart will be revised with the new entity information. Credit Card receipts, as of September 1, will show the new name on the credit card transaction statement.

Additionally, on September 1, 2020, the Terms of Use for WERCSmart will be updated a 2nd time reflecting the new name of UL VS, Inc.


California Cleaning Product Right to Know

A new process will be available, as an option to registrants of cleaning products, where a JSON file delivery will be made to the registrant that can easily be incorporated into their product website, allowing for compliance with the recent California regulation.

As part of this process, there will be data tier consent revisions, per formula submitted, that you will need to accept or decline.  Existing formulations may be used by Direct Suppliers, but you are encouraged to review these changes for previously submitted formulas.  Data Tier Consents impact your Direct Suppliers should they participate in Retailer programs for Sustainability and Restricted Chemicals.

Update v. View Registration Data

A feedback item from many customers during Voice of the Customer telephone meetings was that a registration would be put into Update but no changes or revisions to the data would be made. Registrants had no way of reverting the registration back to its original state without having to submit the registration for a revised assessment that wasn’t necessary.  In essence, there was no way to undo an Update once initiated.

We are creating an enhancement that allows the registrant to first “view” the data and then go into “update” of the data if deemed necessary. The update will still require a submission of the registration for a revised assessment, but the registrant is provided an opportunity to initially view the information to ensure an update is necessary. Should the registrant determine an update is not needed, the registrant would simply close the data and no submission is necessary.

In summary, you will be viewing the data first, then selecting an update of the data if you feel it is warranted.

The Action selection on the registration is revised to be one selection of “View / Update” rather than two separate selections. The View will show the Summary information and, next to the Print option, will be a new option for “Edit Data”. A warning message to the registrant will appear, asking if editing of the data is what the registrant wants to do, and if so, submission is required. The registrant can then proceed, or cancel, the edit. If cancel of the edit occurs, the registrant will be brought to the Home Page in WERCSmart.


Update Data – Reminder to check Uploaded Documents

When a WERCSmart registration is undergoing revision of the data, a reminder will be provided to the registrant to validate the documents associated to the registration to ensure they still apply to the registration. For example, if the flash point on a registration is revised and the original Safety Data Sheet shows a different flash point, it’s possible to forget to revise the document. This then leads to suspension of the registration. It’s helpful to be reminded, before submission, to verify the document is in alignment with the data revisions.


Suspension and Rejection Messaging

Another feedback item, specific to the Net Promoter Score (NPS) comments we’ve received, is that the messaging related to Suspension or Rejection of registrations needs improvement. We are currently working on the improved messaging and are working to ensure details needed for quick resolution of the issue are provided. Clarity of the message has been an issue voiced by customers and we’re hopeful to get this enhancement implemented in the coming months.


Report Delivery Enhancements

Some report requests from within WERCSmart never reach the requestor, whether it be to file sizes being too large or high traffic causing interruptions to the request and delivery. We have reviewed this with our Architects and will be providing a better method for report delivery. 

WERCSmart Users will receive an email when the report request is ready and will be provided access to the report. Reports will be available for retrieval for a period of 20 calendar days. 


My Account – User Details Expansion

So that we may continue to improve communications to WERCSmart Registrants and also work on improving communication between Manufacturers, Distributors and Retailers, an expansion of the details for WERCSmart Users and Administrators is necessary. 

The first phase of this will include expansion of the details for registrants within the My Account area to include the following information:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
    1. Currently this is just one name field but will be separated
  • Title
    1. Currently optional but will be required
  • Company Phone
  • Cell Phone or Alternative Phone
    1. New
    2. Future enhancements for improved messaging
  • Location
    1. New selection as to the location of the person / registrant
      • Corporate office
      • Satellite office
      • Home office
    2. Address of the person’s location based on selection above

Registrants currently active in WERCSmart will be given three (3) opportunities to update their information in the My Account area before it is required.  New registrants will complete the information when establishing their account.

These revisions are necessary, as indicated above, to improve communication. Additionally by getting the registrant’s location, we can determine time zones for support, as well as understand impacts of GDPR and other privacy considerations / regulations.


Document Reader

Our UL Innovation Team is testing a Document Reader they’ve created! The future goal is to allow registrants to provide an SDS early in the registration process and allow the Document Reader to import data into their product registration. 

This will minimize any document / data discrepancy suspensions and will make the registration process more efficient.


PurView Login from within WERCSmart

For WERCSmart Manufacturers who need access to PurView, we are creating a link within WERCSmart that will allow you to open a new browser tab for PurView. Single-Sign in will not be available in the 1st phase of this enhancement.

As you can see from this update, many of the enhancements and fixes included, and coming in the future, are a large part contributed by you, our customer. The feedback and suggestions continue to allow us to improve your experience when using WERCSmart. We thank you for your input!
